December 2019 Announcements

The Composition Program has the following announcements to share for December 2019.

Pathways Assessment Required for All Sections of ENGL1105 and ENGL1106
All sections of ENGL1105 and ENGL1106 must report Pathways assessment ratings this semester. Instructions specific to the Composition Program are available for you to review at http://www.hokieswrite.com/pathways/. Pathways data can be submitted when you complete the evaluation of the major project anchoring each course (rhetorical analysis in ENGL1105 and sustained research project in ENGL1106); you don’t have to wait until final grades are due (though you can, of course). As of Friday, December 13, we’ve received data from 33 out of the 178 sections running this fall. Data are due no later than Friday, December 20, 2019

Spring 2020 Understanding Rhetoric  VT Custom Edition (Book Ordering and Pricing)
Textbook orders have been placed for all sections of ENGL1105 and ENGL1106 for Spring 2020. The sticker price will remain $68.00 for 2019-2020.

August 2020 Composition Program Workshop and Community Day
The August Workshop in for 2020-2021 will be held August 10-14, 2020. The program’s Community Day will be on Thursday, August 13, 2020. This all-day event will feature a yet-to-be-determined presenter who will also lead a pedagogical workshop followed by a social event at day’s end. We are sharing the date at this time simply to allow for everyone to plan ahead. Attendance at the workshop is expected of all GTAs who will be teaching composition at Virginia Tech for the first time. Attendance at the Community Day event is expected of all GTAs and encouraged for everyone else. A more detailed schedule for the day will circulate in the weeks leading up to Community Day, but please put it on your calendar (9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. in Shanks 370/380; lunch provided).

Corridors Conference Planning
Would you like for us to host another iteration of Corridors: The Blue Ridge Writing and Rhetoric Conference in September 2020? If so, please send a message expressing your interest to corridors@vt.edu. Just as it was this fall, Corridors would continue as a free, one-day conference will be held in Shanks Hall on football free Saturday in September.
